Public Files

Public Files is a feature that allows you to store files within Mythradon and make them publicly accessible without requiring users to authenticate or log in to the system.

Public Files are particularly useful for hosting images and other attachments used in Email Templates for newsletters, promotional emails, and other mass marketing campaigns.

Specifically for email templates there were previously two options for including images in email templates:

  • Embedding the image directly within the email as a Base64-encoded image.
  • Linking to an image hosted on an external public website.

Both approaches have drawbacks. Base64-encoded images can significantly increase email size and may not be supported consistently across all email clients, while externally hosted images require maintaining a separate hosting location and introduce dependencies on third-party systems.

With Public Files, you can securely host images and attachments directly within Mythradon, simplifying email template management and providing a reliable, centrally managed location for publicly accessible files.

Rate Limits

Public Files are subject to rate limits to help protect the stability and availability of your system. These limits are designed to prevent excessive download requests and mitigate abuse scenarios, including bandwidth saturation and other forms of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

If your use case requires higher limits, please contact support to discuss your requirements.

Creating a Public File

to create a Public Files:

  • Navigate to Public Files from the Main Menu
  • From the Public Files List View - click Create Public File
  • Complete the fields as described in the table below.
  • Click Save

Once the record has been saved, the system will automatically generate a Public URL. This URL can be used in Email Templates, newsletters, promotional emails, home page dashlets, websites, or any other location where public access to the file is required.

PDF Templates

Public Files are not accessible in Mythradon PDF Templates.

Public File Fields

Field Description
Name* The display name of the Public File.
Expiry Optional date that controls when access to the Public File will expire. After the expiry date is reached, the file will no longer be publicly accessible.
File* The file to be made publicly available.
Public URL System-generated URL that provides public access to the file. This URL can be used in Email Templates, newsletters, promotional emails, websites, and other external content.
Description Internal notes or a description of the Public File.

File Security

Public Files can be accessed by anyone who has the Public URL. They do not require authentication and should therefore only be used for files that are intended to be publicly accessible. Do not use Public Files to store confidential, sensitive, or private information.
